A Reddit user and True Detective fan who happens to live within 10 miles of most of the filming locations of the show has taken these stunning photos that every fan has to see. It’s as if you’re visiting the shooting locations yourself!
See all the moments he captured below:
The show’s intro shows this giant spherical tank. There are tons of these in the Norco area outside of New Orleans in an area known as “Cancer Alley” for its abundance of refineries.
“This place is like someone’s memory of a town, and the memory’s fading.”
There aren’t usually any ladies of the night hanging around, likely due to the playground across the street and police station down the road. Harahan, Louisiana.
Right across the street from the gas station in the previous scene.
This is the Bonnet Carre Spillway. When the Mississippi River gets too high, it is drained into this wide area for relief.
Also in the Bonnet Carre Spillway. Everything is gone aside from some trash, superficially charred wood, and a few shotgun shells.
Different shots of the infamous school.
The woman that runs the donut shop said the director was so specific that he made sure even the cars parked outside had to have 1994 tags.
The booth that Maggie and Rust were talking at inside the donut shop.
The flood locks in the back of the Bonnet Carre Spillway.
The bar where Rust takes Ginger to meet his meth contact is actually a closed down fishing shop.
The jail in this scene is actually a real jail in Chalmette, Louisiana.
The Fox and the Hound bar.
The interior of the bar. They took out some of the TV’s to make the place look seedier.
This bar is the bare minimum to be considered a bar. Small room, concrete floor, a few chairs, a very basic alcohol selection, and a cigarette machine.
This shot looks pretty much the same now.
The fight that changed it all.
Tuttle’s place on St. Charles Avenue, New Orleans.
Same shot showing the Sheriff’s Maserati.
Shot from the finale at Dot’s Diner in River Ridge. Apparently they have great waffles.
What a great show, so sad this season is over, but excited to see what they come up with next!
